Have You Tried Farro? Farro is a healthy whole grain that is used in soups and salads. It is an ancient grain that is lower in gluten content than our modern wheat. Farro has also been called Emmer and has a nutty taste like oats but is also similar in taste to light brown rice. Farro is high in fiber which fills you up and helps support a healthy gut environment. Another benefit of farro is that it has a high content of protein. Those who are on a plant-based diet should try adding farro to increase their intake of protein. Farro is high in the nutrients iron, B vitamins, zinc and magnesium which can relieve tension, menstrual cramp, help you sleep and may boost your immune system and heart health.
(The ancient grain-Farro)
Buy whole farrow not “pearled” pearled means it has been partly processed and some nutrients and fiber have been removed. Many supermarkets are now stocking farro so you can purchase it locally in most areas. The feature picture shows a simple recipe of satued vegetables and chicken sausage, mixed with cooked farro. My family really enjoyed the taste of this dish so I will plan on using farro in more recipes in the future.
